Yamal LNG project has recently got license for commissioning of the first LNG train related to 58 gas wells from the South Tambey Field, located above the polar circle in the Russian artic and already launched the first shipment of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) to China through the Northern Sea new route.
Samson Ringo has participated in this project since last 2016 supplied a package of cage guided globe control valves to be installed in Yamal LNG plant. Valves of this contract were a technical challenge to Samson Ringo due to the combination of severe operations conditions and extreme climate conditions of the site, where the winter temperatures can drop to -50ºC and can be frozen up to nine months a year.
Scope of the supplied valves were more than 20 pneumatic control valves up to 20” 600# soft seated and leakage class VI and presented several technical challenges:
- For gas service, the valves need to comply with noise level below 85dba so Ringo decided to use cones with silencer plates at valve outlet to fulfill the complex requirement due to the pressure conditions.
- For liquid service valves, even for cryogenic, multistage was needed to avoid cavitation service (MULTICYL trim).
Additionally, valves were qualified with very strict tests that were performed with satisfactory result:
- Hydrostatic shell and seat test.
- Functional test
- Vacuum test
- Fugitive emissions according to ISO-15848-1 & 2
- Cryogenic down to -196ºC
